HOW TO PAINT A BATHROOM
Bathrooms are an area for calm and relaxation, so select paint colours that reflect this.
Vapours from hot baths and showers mean that humidity levels are always rising and falling in these areas, so your paint finish will need to stand up to the test in this room!
- Determine the paint colour for your wall. Review our colour charts for more colour inspiration. Remember to consider colours you’ve selected for doors, trim and ceilings when making your choice.
- The paint calculator will help you determine the quantity of paint required for the area you will be painting.
- Before you begin, ensure you prepare bathroom walls for painting. Watch the How To Prepare A Wall video for tips.
- When repainting old bathrooms where enamel finishes were previously used on the walls, we recommend lightly sanding and applying a coat of Taubmans 3 in 1 sealer primer undercoat to ensure new paint adhesion and the best possible results.
- Place drop cloths on floors and on any furnishings that can’t be removed from the room.
- Apply painter’s masking tape to fittings and any trim edges which may be fiddly and dicult to paint around.
- When painting any room, we always recommend painting from the top, down.
- Start with the ceilings. Watch the How To Paint A Ceiling video, to guide you.
- Move onto painting the walls next. Get some tips by watching the video How To Paint A Wall video.
- Once these are completely dry, paint the doors, trims and window frames. Watch the video on How To Paint A Door, to talk you through this too.
- Remember to leave the room well ventilated. Water based paints will need 2 days before they are exposed to moisture. This means you need to ensure the paint is completely dry before using the bathroom. Having a well ventilated bathroom with a good exhaust fan will help the paint cure quickly and prevent mould in the future.
Something for the Mums to consider when painting at home!
